Christmas Eve Holten Canadian War Cemetery The local school children place a burning candle from Finland on the graves every year on Christmas Eve in remembrance of the Canadian liberators who gave their lives for our freedom. Candles from Finland are capable burning for more than 10 hours even in rain or snowfall. More than 1500 candle lights form an impressive look at the cemetery. Many people from the region visit the Canadian War Cemetery for a moment of silence. The Holten stichting “Welcome Again Veterans” has adapted this tradition which started in 1991.
