From the President:
Major Joseph Mark, MSM "I am extremely privilaged to take over as President of Branch 76 of the Normandy Veterans Association from Brigadier James Howard CBE who had to resign because of his move from Cumbria to Yorkshire. I served in Normandy and North West Europe with 110 Light Ack Ack Regiment R.A. which was part of 43 (Wessex) Infantry Division. As a Veteran I am proud to be President of the Carlisle Branch No.76 of the Association, whose members reside in Dumfries and the Scottish Borders as well as Appleby in Westmoreland and North Cumbria in England. Veterans represent all that is best in the tradition of the British Forces. Comradeship is the binding force at all our meetings and activities. There is mutual respect as well as much good humour and friendly rivalry amongst our members who are former Sailors, Royal Marines, Soldiers of the British Army as well as The Royal Air Force. Our proudest achievement is the award of our Battle Honour for the Normandy landings in 1944. Veterans are held in the highest regard for this unique distinction and subsequent contribution to defeating the enemy in Holland and elsewhere in Northern Europe" |
