National Express Coaches Plc helps Veterans to London

22-10-2009

"Early in 2009 when Veterans were uncertain about their ability to attend the 65th anniversary Commemorations of 'D-DAY' and the Normandy campaign in France, the UK based 'National Express Coaches Plc'

approached The 'Honorary General Secretary', Peter L. Hodge, to offer

coaches to take Veterans to Normandy, free of charge.   Most

arrangements had already been made in concert with both transport and Hotel accommodations and the latitude of time was insufficient to take up this most magnanimous gesture.

Peter L. Hodge states; "It is with sincere appreciation that 'National Express' has 'followed through' with their desire and intent to assist our octogenarian Veterans in this final year of Commemorations.

For several months, Senior Management of 'National Express' - working with me, have agreed to transport over 700 Veterans and family members from all points of the UK to 'Westminster Abbey' for a final Commemoration Service on Sunday 25th October.  The extent of a huge logistical exercise has been influenced by their determination to satisfy every possible need.

Those travelling greater distance will be transported free by train with an arrangement for Taxi's to transport them to 'Westminster Abbey' and back to Kings Cross Station.  In consequence, this must surely be the most wonderful final gesture as a 'Salute' to all Our Veteran members.

Rarely does an interest pursue their desire to be of assistance.  All Our Veteran members will be transported in both style and comfort from door to door.  I am humbled by both their conduct of operation and their magnanimity"
