The Last en-Masse Reunion of the Normandy Veterans

08-09-2009

In the 65th anniversary year of the D-Day Landings, IWM Duxford is proud to host the last en-mass reunion of the Normandy Veterans. Over 1000 veterans and guests are expected to be in attendance for this poignant and historic day.

Visitors to Duxford will be able to chat to Normandy Veterans about their wartime experiences. They will also be able to enjoy a marching display by air cadets and a performance by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

There will be an exciting flying display by The Blades, comprised of pilots who were formerly with The Red Arrows, with over 20 collective years of display experience, flying the ultimate in high-performance piston aircraft.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will perform a flypast by a Supermarine Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane, and this memorable day will conclude with a sunset ceremony, where the Central Band of the Royal Air Force will Beat the Retreat and fallen comrades are remembered in time-honoured tradition.

This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to Imperial War Museum Duxford to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and show appreciation for the veterans in attendance, while remembering those who gave their lives during the Second World War.

Standard admission to the Museum applies on this day – there is no extra charge for experiencing this event.
